Why 182?
No one knows for sure why the guys put the number 182 after their origanl name but I know that they almost got sued because of a band in Ireland that had the name Blink and Blink 182 was only Blink at the time too so they had to add the 182.
Here are some rumors why they chose the number 182:
- Mark's ideal weight.
- The number of miles between Mark's house and his girlfriend's.
- The number of Mark's grandpa's race car.
- The number of Mark's grandpa's boat in World War II.
- The number of times Al Pacino says the f-word in Scarface.
- The eighteenth letter in the alphabet is R. The second is B. 18 + 2 = RB, or Rancho Bernardo where Mark and Scott lived for years.
- The number of times Mark masturbated (lube) to the paused image of Princess Leia in the Jabba slave girl outfit.
- The number of times Tom masturbated (dryskin) to the image of the puppeteer dwarf inside Jabba's tail.
- The number of talk shows Scott watched in the summer of '95 involving club kids.
- The band members gave an explaination that the numbers 1, 8, and 2 add up to 11. That is the number the amp goes up to in Spinal Tap.
- They also claimed it was from the flop 1985 movie "Turk 182" but later admitted the movie was too dumb to take the name of.
